Cellfservices Unlocking Wind Mobile Blackberry Bold 9700

As many people are jumping off their contracts and joining Wind Mobile,we have received a surge of e-mails asking us to find out how to unlock the Blackberry Bold 9700. We are proud to say that we have successfully unlocked 5 devices and have been tested and reported as working.

There are however a few things to note before deciding to unlock your WIND Mobile Blackberry Bold 9700. After unlocking your phone, you will NOT be able to use 3G on any of the North American network carriers because WIND runs on 3G-1700 band. Your EDGE and GPRS functions will be fine and you will still be able to use BIS and BES fully. This means you can continue using your Blackberry Messenger, your E-mails will all come in at real time, and you will be able to use all of the features of the phone.

If you would like to have your WIND Mobile Blackberry Bold 9700 unlocked or have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us!

    Hello,
I want to buy a Blackberry bold 9900.
I would like to know what would be a better choice: to buy it from wind or the the big 3 and unlock it.( with keeping the possibility of using it with any carrier and abroad)

    • admin says:

I’d recommend buying it from 3 as WIND operates on AWS frequencies which will give you less opportunities to use 3G when travelling on different carriers.

that is by far the best answer i have seen in 3 hours of research. Thank you. It sucks to know that i unlocked a rogers phone i cant use on mobilicity but all i wanted is an answer and you gave it. thank you!

    Oh Dear,

People are really getting messed up with all the misinfo out there about cellular connectivity.

Folks: here’s the info you need if you want to unlock BlackBerrys and use them with other carriers.

    Bell, Virgin & Telus provide:
3G service on the UMTS Band 1 frequency: 2100 MHz
2G service on the dying CDMA standard

    Rogers & Fido Provide:
3G service on the UMTS Band 1 frequency: 2100 MHz
2G service on the GSM standard

    Cityfone provides:
2G service on the GSM standard

    Public Mobile provides:
2G service on the CDMA standard

    Wind Mobile & Mobilicity provide:
3G service on the UMTS Band 4 frequency: 1700 MHz
2G service on the GSM standard

    In the USA T-Mobile provides:
3G service on the UMTS Band 4 frequency: 1700 MHz
2G service on the GSM standard

If you buy a Blackberry Bold 9700 from Wind Mobile, it *only* supports UTMS Band 4 1700 MHz and GSM.

If you unlock a Wind Mobile BB 9700 phone it will

1 – work just fine on Mobilicity

2 – work just fine on T-Mobile if you get a plan in the USA

3 – work only in 2G GSM mode on Rogers, Fido or Cityfone (2G EDGE connectivity is incredibly slow for internet access, you’ll miss having 3G)

4 – not work at all on Bell, Telus or Public Mobile

Roaming: if you unlock the 9700 you can use it on GSM networks anywhere in the world.
Note: CDMA has lost the format wars for 2G cellular connectivity. Many manufacturers have stopped developing new phones that support it, and only sell legacy phones for CDMA. Worldwide in countries that still only have 2G connectivity, GSM is the international standard, only a few small African countries still have CDMA networks. RIM is one of the few manufacturers who still bring out new models to support CDMA, and it’s not clear how long RIM will continue to support it. The 9700 is one of their models that does *not* support CDMA.

If you go to the USA, you can roam on any of the carriers that have GSM connectivity, but data under the old 2G EDGE standard will transfer very slowly, racking up big roaming charges. See if you can select roaming on T-Mobile manually if your 9700 connects automatically to some other network while you’re travelling.

Now: Blackberry 9700s sold by Bell, Telus and Rogers *only* support 3G UTMS Band 1 2100 MHz and 2G GSM connectivity.

That’s right: Rog/Tel/Bell sell *different* 9700 phone that Wind/Mobilicity do. They have the same model number, but they support different 3G frequencies, and the only way to tell which is which is to determine which phone company sold it.

Since Wind and Mobilicity only provide 3G UTMS Band 4 service, if you unlock a Rogers, Telus or Bell 9700 phone it will be completely unusable on Wind or Mobilicity.

Hey…. I just unlocked my windmobile blacberry cuve 9300 but it dosent work with telus sim card no Service how can i make it work

    Thanks

  • hotair says:

been trying to port from wind to telus, and no luck. Wind unlock code entered and still in SOS mode. read all this noise about only accessing 2G network, also that you can only use an unlocked 9700 with telus or bell. Well smarty pants, when i scan for available wireless with my telus sim card in the only thing that is available is Rogers 2G. Telus personal cant help…Wind Customer service is the worst to deal with PERIOD. believe me folks its not worth saving 15-20 a month. Wind has to put tickets into IT for everything and it takes weeks for a repsonse.

hey admin I’m currently on Bell (on contract for the next year or so), and I don’t use data just voice and text. does this mean I could purchase a wind mobile BB Bold, unlock it, and use it on bell, and then once I later on switch to wind I could then still use the BB on wind and possibly have data?

  • Julie says:

I have an unlocked WIND Mobile Blackberry 9700. I insert my FIDO sim card and on my home screen I have a ROAMING ICON ON!!! Can you tell me why my phone is telling me I am roaming when I have a local phone number and I am home and still it says I am roaming? Will I be charged roaming fees now for calling a local number locally?

    • admin says:

You should not be charged for Roaming. Try to do a battery pull and see if it’s still there. You may call Fido as well but it is likely that they will tell you that you they do not provide support for unlocked phones.

  • Hi Folks,

I am really stuck, I bought a new BlackBerry bold 9700 from T-Mobile in US, when I came to Pakistan, I asked a freiend to unlock so that I can use it here in Pakistan. He tried to enter MEPD code and entered wrong code all the time, Now problem is that he used all the attempts and nothing left to try. Seems that phone is useless for me. I need help how to unlock and make it useable for me.

Looking forward to heairng from you soon.

    Sincerely,
    Khawaja.

    Hey folks,
I realize this may be the totally wrong place to post this but, I’m not that bright of a guy. I have a shiny new BB Bold 9700 my mom bought me from T-mobile and mailed to me here where I live in Japan. And when I got it and stuck one of the local Softbank Sim card in it; it said I need a MEP code etc etc. So I’m using the WIFI Hotspot Browser built into it (totally rocks!!!) To send this message to you now.

But I want to unlock it so it will work like its supposed to. Phone and all that. What do I need to do here? Please help.

  • Scrappy says:

where can I get a prepaid sim card for use on an unlocked Wind bberry bold? Do they have data plans available as well?

    • admin says:

      Hello,

You can get a prepaid SIM card in any telecommunications shop wherever you are travelling. The data plans vary depending on which network carrier you are looking to use your phone with. Most prepaid carriers do not allow data services, but there’s no harm in asking :)

  • david says:

Since the BB Bold 9700 is also a quadband phone. Why wouldn’t user have the same functionality using other networks?

I am having issues unlocking because when I type in MEPD and them MEP2 from the SIM CARD option within settings. Whey I type the digits nothing happens – meaning I don’t see if the network is active and ultimately don’t get any window asking to input my unlock code what I already received from Wind…

    Any suggestions?

    • admin says:

It’s possible that one of your keys may not be functioning. Try to open the memo pad and type in mepd and mep2. They do not need to be in capital letters.

  • Eddy says:

Hi there once getting the wind mobile blackberry bold unlocked what companies can i use it on in Canada? Am i just limited to rogers and fido?

    • admin says:

Yes. In Canada with the Wind Mobile BlackBerry Bold 9700, you will only be able to use it on Telus and Bell. You will also be able to use it abroad & overseas.
